We want to encourage them to explore all of the possibilities that will allow them to create the lifestyle that they desire.
The mission of Literacy Knowledge and Dreams is to promote children’s literacy, foster knowledge, and inspire dreams in underserved communities in the United States and around the world through libraries, educational programs, and community outreach.
Our Mission
From Kemet to Tanzania

Reclaiming the Legacy of Learning
Long before the world knew Oxford or Harvard, the banks of the Nile nurtured a civilization where education was sacred. In ancient Kemet—now known as Egypt—knowledge was etched into stone, preserved in scrolls, and passed from generation to generation. Mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and philosophy flourished in temples and libraries, guided by the belief that wisdom was the foundation of a just society.
Today, that legacy lives on in Tanzania
Library Kemet is more than a building—it is a rebirth. A bridge between the brilliance of ancient African scholarship and the boundless potential of today’s children. Located in the heart of East Africa, Library Kemet honors the spirit of Imhotep, Hypatia, and countless unnamed scholars by creating a space where literacy, curiosity, and cultural pride are nurtured.
Every book opened here is a step toward restoring Africa’s rightful place as a cradle of knowledge. Every child who reads, dreams, and learns within its walls becomes part of a movement—one that reclaims history, empowers futures, and celebrates the power of education.
A Global Vision Begins Here
Tanzania marks the beginning. It is the proud home of the first Library Kemet. But the vision does not stop there.
Through the work of Literacy, Knowledge and Dreams (LKD), more Library Kemets will rise—across Africa, in Brazil, and throughout America. Each one will serve as a beacon of learning, cultural pride, and conscious positivity, rooted in the legacy of Kemet and reaching toward the future.
